Republicans often get their people in office during midterms or special elections , when Democrat turnout is low. Republicans do not want districts to be uniform square grids, they will make VERY WEIRD shaped districts to tweak the votes in their favor.

-Republicans want to ban or privatize Social Security. Remember that people lost most of their 401k after it was privatized into the stock market.
-Republicans don't want basic Universal Medical Care, and they want to ban Medicare. Republicans want their Wall Street pharmaceutical friends to run EVERYTHING. Remember, that the number ONE reason for filing for bankruptcy is, the cost of a medical condition.
-Republicans want to ban Public Education. They don't believe in the FACTS of Evolution.
-Republicans want to ban minimum wages.
-Republicans want to ban Public Television. They prefer to support Republican FOX television.
-Republicans want to limit or ban the E.P.A. They believe that burning oil and coal does not have much effect on the world.

-Try to support photovoltiac solar cell, plug in hybrid car, and wind power technologies (wind corridor is mainly in the middle U.S. states). Try to rent plug in hybrid or hybrid vehicles.
-Try to buy U.S.D.A. certified organic and non genetically modified food from the U.S. (It is easier to corrupt the inspection process in a foreign government.)
-Try to buy/support food, products, and tourism from only blue states. (capitalism at work baby...)
-Try to boycott sponsors of Republicans, Rush Limbaugh, and Sean Hannity. Also see turnofffox.org

Government is not inherently EVIL, after all, it is supposed to be, by the people.
Nationalize the Oil/energy companies, Banks, Schools, and Hospitals.
(Democrats are tax payers too. If they vote in this kind of change, then that is democracy at work.)

Oil and Coal is the jugular funding for Repulicans. These companies will run ads with minorities, women, and even children to convince people that fossil fuels are good for the world. ;

Sometimes you may feel that your vote does not count, and sometimes that may even be true, but Republicans would like nothing better than for you to give up. They feel that poor people voting is so dangerous, that they will even ban felons, that are no longer in prison from voting. Fox news Republicans think about elections 365 days a year, even if the election is six years away. They will vote Republican, even if Lucifer himself was their candidate. That shows the extent of hate they have for Democrats.
